Don't know if it's as much about him as it is about the Pens needing to moving out salary. He came off an injury-filled season and he's an expiring contract. You move out (most) of his salary and get a late round pick back. The Penguins still have a lot of shuffling around to do to. Goalie situation is up in the air and I have imagine they want to improve that defense.

I'm sure the Wild will get more use out him than if he stayed in Pittsburgh...assuming he's fit to play. Plus he's a Minneapolis native and played with the Golden Gophers so that's a good landing spot for him. He'll play higher up in that lineup than if he stayed in Pittsburgh. The Pens added Zucker at the deadline and just added Kapanen...there's too many forwards on that roster. Somebody had to go.

Assuming McCann was covered by Brassard and Sheahan, we can say Rutherford paid a 2nd and two 4th rounders to get Bjugstad like 19 months ago, now if he is lucky he will get a 7th rounder for paying half of his salary...

The Canes end up with a better 5th than one they gave up with Faulk. And they added Bokk and 7th in 2021 for Faulk who they weren't going to keep.

I'll never understand paying picks just to talk to a player ahead of UFA

Not the most creative hire but for a team with a lot of veteran talent, I think Laviolette is the perfect mercenary coach to squeeze a few more years out of that Capitals group. It doesn't make a lot of sense to use a greenhorn head coach behind the wheel of an established team. He's almost the Jose Mourinho of hockey...doesn't last long where he goes but has bursts of success.

Yeah I think he's the right kind of coach for this current Washington squad. Another 3-year run and then they'll be rebuilding.

Aged 27-34 contract. I'll take it. This will likely age well with him.

Wow, seems like a little rich for Brodin. In the present cap world, seems like a very good deal for him.

What's interesting is how similar the contracts for Klefbom, Larsson and Brodin are...all be Swedish-born 1st rounders from 2011. Each are around $4.16 million against the cap...Brodin's new deal doesn't kick in until '21-22. Larsson is in the final year of a deal like Brodin and Klefbom has 3 years left. Dougie Hamilton is also from that draft class and he's finishing up his contract...$5.75 million. I would assume Hamilton will still be the highest paid out of that quartet of 1st rounders.

$6 million on this next contract doesn't seem too unreasonable...curious to see what Klefbom and Larsson get on their next contracts. The Wild will have quite a bit of money tied up on defense between Spurgeon, Suter, Dumba and Brodin starting in '21-22.

Minnesota is such a dumpster fire. Watch them have a Dallas-like run next year. Add to that Parise is still on the books for another 5 years @ 7.5 and change. Yikes.

Like this trade for Buffalo. Staal isn't what he used to be, but he will bring a little leadership, and accountably to that dumpster fire in Buffalo.

I guess Dumba is indeed going to be traded for a center
