Good. He's been a great singer for years, but give him the boot. He could be actively helping to kill people.

"It appears the Vancouver Canucks have fired their longtime national anthem singer in response to reports he will be singing at a rally organized by COVID-19 deniers and anti-mask advocates.

On Friday afternoon, the Vancouver Sun reported that Mark Donnelly had agreed to perform at a Saturday event in Vancouver protesting COVID-19 restrictions.

Not long after, hockey team owner Francesco Aquilini tweeted at the newspaper to request a change in the headline from "Canucks anthem singer" to "former Canucks anthem singer.""

While I don't agree with his stance, I'm really getting tired of cancelling people who don't agree with you. Let a person be wrong or have a different opinion...enough with the thought police. Right or wrong, there's a lot of people who are tired of the virus or don't believe in what's being done. Let everyone have a voice...even if they say something you don't like. Ignorant people are allowed to be ignorant in a free society.

Sorry, my libertarian side is coming out now...I'm tired of politics bleeding into everything.

This has nothing to do with politics and everything to do with being a complete idiot.

There are a lot of idiots in the world. How do you think Trump got elected in the first place? That said, hating someone for having a stupid opinion makes for a miserable existence. Just let them be wrong and figure it out on their own.

Them being wrong puts other individuals in danger. That's not something that can be simply laughed off as another dumb choice.

Is his stance affecting you in any way whatsoever? Let it go. Unfortunately there are a lot of people that feel exactly the way he does and you aren't going to change their opinions.

That's a very dumb way to look at things. There is a reason masking is mandatory. Follow the rules or stay the fuck at home.

His own opinion does not affect me, but the general non-masking 'opinion' certainly does.

Never said I was going to. Only celebrating those who can make a difference. You don't want to follow the rules? Bye bye paycheck.

While I agree that cancel culture is stupid, I'm not sure this is really an example in this case. If an employee of a business is publicly conducting themselves in a way that his boss feels would hurt the image of their brand, he's going to fire the guy.

I don't think having this view behind closed doors would've gotten him fired, but maybe I'm missing some information.

Yeah, #1 this is brand image, #2 this is not just saying something stupid...this is gonna get people killed and is dangerous to the entire local population. Do the canucks really want their brand associated with spreading covid during a pandemic? It's straight up a dangerous message and action.

And it's not like the guy is someone that important to them. He's an anthem singer.

Generally I hate cancel culture, but if I'm canucks I do the same thing. If this was just saying something that would offend people I wouldnt care, but he's actively promoting actions that spread a deadly disease.

Cancelling a guy who unfortunately has an opinion a lot of people having doesn't solve anything. We're slapping the hands of anyone with opposing opinions. Honestly, who is actually right in all of this? I'll distance myself from anti-mask people but I'm not going shout everyone of them down either.

Us trying to get over the finish line with this crisis is frustrating because the longer it goes on and the more political it gets, people are going to talk themselves out of this being an actual issue because of where they stand politically instead of addressing this head-on as a true healthcare crisis that needs proper attention. Because it doesn't kill everyone that gets it, it somehow becomes a non-issue.

Regular citizens vote politicians into office and then complain about what they're doing but I wouldn't trust any regular person to make tough decisions. If you left this crisis in the hands of everyone, nothing would get done because it would be impossible reach a consensus. Being divided politically makes governing all citizens impossible. Right or wrong, someone is always going to be mad.

You're right. This isn't political. It is a healthcare crisis. If he ignores the science and is a celebrated person in the community endorsing dangerous ideas he is inevitably hurting people.

If he was endorsing people with aids have unprotected sex would you expect the canucks to want to employ him?

There is a difference between getting canceled because you say and do something that offends someone, and getting canceled because you say and do something that results in deaths in the community.
