More than I thought he would get at this point.

Some of these contracts are basically a team's way of just avoiding conflict with the player. The player wants to stay and the team wants them to stay...don't overthink it and just get it done. Teams really should move quickly on locking up young players when they show that they're not just a player with promise...these are players that going to help you win. Some of these guys are getting deals after only one strong season but if they sign them before they're contract is up, the price tag probably goes up.

That could be a good deal as soon as this season. It seems like the bride deal is dying off.

I hope it doesn't screw anything up for us but I see the Blackhawks hired the founder of CapFriendly. I figure at this point that site has to have a team working on it so I hope we no disruptions with getting the information we rely on.

It's official, the NHL will go on break and the players will participate in Beijing in February.
The time zone thing stinks but at least the hockey will be better than the South Korea games. There's a lot of great young talent that haven't had a chance to represent their country in the Olympics...the rosters will be great. I'm very excited to see the new generation of American stars to be showcased.

Groups for the Olympics...
Group A: Canada / USA / Germany / China
Group B: (not) Russia / Czech Republic / Switzerland / Denmark
Group C: Finland / Sweden / Slovakia / Latvia
I feel so sorry for the Chinese team...Germany is going to a sleeper in this tournament, let alone being fed to Canada and Team USA.
Group B will be a fun competitive group. I think Sweden and Finland in a group is always fun...Lativa and Slovakia are spoilers at best.

2 per group + best 3rds qualify for the quarters?
I hope the schedule will accomodate enough days to allow this tourney to be as good as it can be, but I doubt it going off previous Olympics

Drake Batherson
6 years x 4.975 million
#BBKLducks
I was going to get him on a cheaper short term deal, but after Farabee's deal I kinda saw this one coming. I think this is a solid deal. Luckily Batherson is waiver exempt for another season.

The 2018 Olympics had this same format...12 teams divided into 3 groups. The 3 group winners plus the next team with the most points had byes to the quarterfinals. The other 8 teams played in the opening round and those winners were fed to the 4 teams with byes. The group play didn't eliminate anyone...it was all for seeding for the elimination tournament.

My memory is foggy...they've actually been doing the 12-team field since the Vancouver games in 2010. Torino only had 8 teams.

Really sucks to see how far he fell. I think he signs somewhere else and hopefully the change of scenery will be what he needs.
