I'm liking Heiskanen's new deal more with each passing day

That's a reasonable contract for Dahlin. He's not getting the Makar/Heiskanen/Chabot price but he's on a short enough deal that if he plays improves, he'll be able to command a comparable rate and from a Sabres' perspective, they can buy more of his early UFA years. When you sign a guy long-term right out of their ELC at 21, you're going to have to pay these guys again at 29 or 30. If you bridge and then sign them long term...you're looking at their first UFA contract in their early 30s.

I wonder when a lot of these deals for the top young defensemen expire, are we still going to see the Doughty/Karlsson deals happen for these guys when they're in the early 30s but they're best years are already behind them.

Remember, he's 24 coming out of his ELC compared to Makar or Heiskanen signing long term at 21. Svechnikov is getting $7.7 million at 21. He's basically at the age you would be signing a top young player if they went through a bridge deal.

Fine with this. I’d say he deserves it. His play with Krueger was not good but he Was neutered by him. It’s no surprise his game looked a lot better after he was canned. I’m still of the opinion Dahlin is going to be a stud.

Sounds like Alex stalock won't be playing this season...He has heart problems from covid.

Also sounds like Josh Archibald going to miss a ton of the season as he is refusing to get vaccinated.

Being on an American team and non vaccinated won't be too bad. But if there is a player on a Canadian team that isn't vaccinated, that player could miss SIGNIGICANT time as they wouldn't be allowed to travel within Canada by plane and anytime they left Canada to go to the USA for games and then came back, they would have to quarantine for 2 weeks.
