O'Really?
Hey Leafs fans... I'd say chances in the playoffs (still there obv) would have been better by getting Parayko and Acciari for 1st and Sandin than this?
Agree. Love o’Reilly but doesn’t make a ton of sense to me. We’ll see if there is more to come.

Fun trade. Leafs wouldn't would have a prayer to get a player with that kind of cap hit any other way unless it was money in-money out.
Why are the Wild throwing away $1.8 million in cap room for a 4th round pick? They're a wild card team...couldn't they find a better way to use that space? I'm still wondering if they keep Dumba or not.
Nice job by the Blues to get assets two key expiring deals. They're 8 points out of the final wild card...this and the Tarasenko moves are basically white flag trades. They're currently in a top 10 position plus they've got two late 1st. Which is key since they don't own a 2nd...that went to Detroit in the aforementioned Leddy trade last year.

Trade makes is way more difficult to play against come playoff time and we are only paying 25% of oreillys contract. Sandin is a solid young player. That would be a big ask for parayko

Parayko just started his new contract (with a NTC)...I don't see why he'd get moved right away.
The Leafs are going to have a bit of cap space to use next summer...CapFriendly shows them around $11 million but a lot of UFAs from this current roster. Parayko would eat up more than half that space on his own. They're going to have a very interesting season in 2023-24 with Matthews and Nylander both up following the season but they'll have a lot of cap room to keep guys and/or add.
The Blues can very well go back to being competitive next year with $13 million in cap space and several roster spots open. The Blues can't really go into a rebuild mode with a lot of long term deals. They're transitioning where Kyrou and Thomas are key guys and they move out Tarasenko and O'Reilly. Is there maybe a chance O'Reilly returns in the summer? Schenn has a long deal, Buchnevich has 2 more years and their defense seems to be set in terms of contracts.

My son is off school and my wife is a state worker and they observe all the federal holidays (yes, it's President's Day here). I'm working but I'll get to stream some afternoon action on my phone.

So I guess this is it for this Caps' group. I think they did well here though, considering they were not able to resign Orlov

The Caps are in an awkward spot...they want to get Ovechkin the goal record but they don't want to do the full tear down. They have a lot of free agents this summer...Carlson is the only defenseman with term remaining and they've got their goaltending duo locked up. I think they're more like the Blues in that they probably don't want to do the full tear down but they are willing to sell at the deadline. I bet they spend in free agency to fill out their roster.
The Wings won again last night...they sit in the final wild card spot. I think they're in an interesting spot too. I heard Yzerman's comments about not wanting to acquire a rental but they would be interested in guys they could have for the long term. I think he wouldn't be disappointed if they made the playoffs and took them out of the draft lottery but let's be honest, are they going to be Carolina or Boston in a best-of-7? They're an interesting spot also. I don't think the rebuild is complete but yet, they're very much in contention to be a playoff team.

Shaping up to be two of
PIT
FLA
NYI
OTT
WSH
DET
BUF
I just don't see DET playing well enough down the stretch to stay in front of 5 of those teams.
