Jake Walman got physically beat up yesterday in Ottawa between blocked shots and taking hits but he gets rewarded with a nice new deal this morning. He's been a nice fit with Seider on the top pair. It makes too much sense not to keep him.

@EdmontonOilers
TRADE
The #Oilers have acquired forward Patrik Puistola from the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for forward Jesse Puljujarvi.
Gotta love Puistola landing in Edmonton, you celebrating Kim?

Wow. Didn’t see this coming. Poor couple months but great start to the year. Gotta imagine someone picks him up!

Is that done? Hadn't seen that anywhere and seems crazy weak but I guess when a guy wants to go to only one team there's not much options

$3.4 million AAV for 3 years...it's a good price for a guy that's been a great partner for Seider. I know they started Chiarot on the top pair with Seider and then Walman got a shot with him after he returned from injury.
It does make me wonder where Edvinsson would fit in the lineup if he came up next year. Does either Hronek or Chiarot move to the 3rd pair or do you pair Edvinsson with Maatta on the 3rd pair? I think the main reason Edvinsson didn't make the team this year was because he'd get more minutes in Grand Rapids. I don't see him making the eam next year and they stick him on the 3rd pair. If he's with the Wings next year, he's playing in the top 4.

Interesting...Leafs trade Sandin to the Capitals for Erik Gustafsson and Boston's 1st.

Arizona is getting a 3rd in the deal for retaining salary. Chicago keeps half of the salary and ships him to Arizona where they keep 25% before Kane ends up in New York. Similar move to how they got Tarasenko.
The top 6 teams in the East right now are crazy good. Every team now has made significant additions plus the Islanders added Horvat. Curious to see if any of Buffalo/Detroit/Ottawa/Florida/Pittsburgh make any moves to improve or do they just let it ride as is. I have to think someone in the wild card pack will make a significant move.

More moving and shaking from the Leafs...
Engvall to the Islanders for a 3rd and the Leafs (re)acquire Luke Schenn for a draft pick.

I know we've had our debate that here but I like the salary retention mechanism in the NHL. It's very straightforward as opposed to some of the funny business around LTIR. That's harder to understand that a team eating salary in trade.
Buyouts are still hard to understand also.

Ekholm to Edmonton. The West needs to start doing to some work...this is a pretty significant deal for one of the contenders.

Ekholm is 32, makes 6.25 for 3 more yrs and hasn't looked his best self when I've seen him this season.. looks like an overpayment to me, especially when they didn't get NSH to retain more than 4% of the salary LOL, and in the process they also lost the D that was running the best PP in the league.
I don't know, there was another Swedish D the same age available who could have done a decent job at running that PP and igniting McJesus in transition..
