I'm referring to October 1 as our reference date for waivers.
kyuss wroteCOLONthis
past season parameters for waivers eligibility have been edited.
The age limit has been lowered by 2 yrs as follows:
Skaters will need to have played max 120 NHL regular season games AND to have yet to turn 26 as of October 1st to be waiver exempt throughout the starting BBKL season.
Goalies will need to have played max 60 NHL regular season games AND to have yet to turn 26 as of October 1st to be waiver exempt throughout the starting BBKL season.
That means skaters with 121 NHL regular season games will be eligible for waivers no matter the age, just like 26 yrs old players with less games played.
If under NHL contract, such players will be exposed to waivers if in the minors at roster submission (for season opener) and whenever they are demoted during the season (off-season excluded).
Note: that new age limit is not supposed to drop any further in future seasons.

so that means Grosenick, my 3rd string goalie, born 8/27/89 with at total of 2 fucking NHL games is on the waiver wire when rosters are submitted... are you fucking kidding me?

Ya we should just let him stay waiver exempt until he's 40

If anyone claims Grosenick they need to keep a minor league goalie on their roster all year, he's probably pretty safe to clear.

safe to say our rules force the claimer to keep the new player up?
my doubts are probably a by-product of the fact that's not the case in my other league

Doesn't force a team but they have to waive him if they try. A GM can't claim a player and place them in the minors.

Doesnt a team that makes a claim have to keep that player on there roster for a min of 2 or 3 weeks?

Any successful waiver claim requires the new team to keep that player on their active 23. They have to waive them again to send them down. The only way you can assign them is if they clear waivers.
We've had 3rd or 4th string goalies have to go through waivers...that's nothing new. You had guy like Rob Zepp last year who was 32 and a few NHL games would have to clear.
If you want to claim a 3rd goalie who is in the AHL, that's your choice...if you've got the room. But you have to waive them again to send them down so they can be claimed by another team.

I don't believe that's the case. Shiv claimed a guy last year and then wanted to send them down and waived the player within a day or two of claiming the player. I forget the exact instance but that move was permitted.

All of this should be clearly documented in the CBA moving forward.

I think that was the reason for the discussion. Why claim a player from a competitor if your only intention is to waive that player? You should be making calculated waiver claims and plan on having said player on active roster for a min period at least. I think its only fair and makes sense...

Making a claim also puts you at the bottom of the order so there is consequence
