Protection lists arendue tonight at 7pm EST, I'll spend the next few days negotiating any final protection deals teams may want to do and then I will start announcing my team either the evening of the 16th or the morning of the 17th.

Well the time has come and passed. Some managed to make the deals they told me they would, others, not so much. So now comes the fun part. I'm going through the rosters tonight to determine my preferred selections. If you have questions, hit me up.

If seattle goes for straight stats they could have a championship team. Lots of studs available this expansion draft.

Not according to my calculations, but Seattle could definitely be a playoff team right out the gate given the sad state of a lot of these teams

Ya tough to be a championship team when your taking 11th best assets from non-playoff teams.

Seattle being in the West will make it difficult to make the playoffs as well. If Seattle were in the East, then I think Seattle would be a lock to make the playoffs barring a disaster of a draft.

I suppose it all depends on somehow making cap work. Lots of money was made available, but also tons of talent.

You are aware that you just suggested like 80 mil in cap for forwards alone there right?

That team would have about 70 mil tied up in 7 players. Try again.

You can remove Lee and Stastny from that list and maybe Toews if you don't feel like gambling.

That is 100% a playoff team with a few additions and depth. Dam. Teams better be paying up for protection on some of those stud forwards. I don't understand Malkin being exposed though. I mean Archibald and Lazar over Malkin? Shoalzie makes some truly horrible decisions.

Thanks for correcting me. Forgot about that trade. Shame on me for jumping the gun and blasting without researching. However I don't see Getz protected so that trade still looks bad.

Also weird that you would not protect Malkin. Guess we'lll see what deals you made on the side. Simply leaving him to be picked makes no sense to me.

You have to factor in that there might be a reason all these high paid aging players are available. I’ve seen a bunch of these names thrown around on trade blocks with not much interest and I think a lot of GMs would prefer losing these big contracts for flexibility rather than a productive depth player who is young and cheap. Sure Seattle can go over the cap but if the trade market is limited with rebuilders not wanting them and contenders not wanting their cap hits then it wouldn’t make a lot of sense.

Every year I need to cut cap i struggle to find deals even where I feel I lose some value and that’s with better players than most listed above.

Also people can post mocks now, a bunch did with Vegas last time

See to me, that does not make sense. It is much easier to replace a cheap depth forward's production then that of a Malkin type player. Sure you gain cap flexibility, but to do what with? Likely to use while trying to replace that type of production.
