Figured it would spark a little conversation. Just three weeks in, some records could based on the strength or weakness of the opposition but this at least gives everyone an idea of how they stack up against everyone. Some teams could have some tough luck and just run into the wrong opponents at the wrong. It seems like our standings and these rankings are fairly close.

Just in case anyone cares...30 points for 1st in a category, 1 point for 30th. For any ties, the points were averaged (ie--three-way tie starting with 5th through 7th place, those teams each received 24 points (26+25+24)/3 = 24). 465 total points were given out in each category amongst the 30 teams...no team can get higher than 30 or lower than 1. 16 categories, 480 is the highest score possible (30 points in each category). 16 points obviously being the worst possible score (1 point in each category).

I might do that every few weeks just for fun.

roto is actually the worst way to analyze it. i agree scotts team has been the best team so far but roto skews the picture because for example, a team like Kareems if it were to face say Scotts would most likely win a majority of scoring categories and lose a majority of peripheries, but in roto, if kareems team is may be much worse in peripheries than it is better in scoring (I.e. kareem may rank 1st in goals, while scott ranks 5th, but kareem may rank 20th in blocked shots, while scott ranks 3rd). these stats are hypothetical of course but but in h2h those rankings dont matter at all. kareem would be MUCH farther behind in roto than he would in h2h.

if you REALLY want to do your homework, you would have to do this: take all the stats so far and match up EVERY team against every OTHER TEAM in the league. so take Washington and see what his record would have been against NJD, PHI, BOS, OTT, etc etc based on cumulative stats. this would give the record of each team collectively against all teams in the league. and then you could create a ranking. i guarantee the result would alter the rankings significantly (maybe not at the top of the list but certainly a good chunk of it).

I think you get a good indication of who the top teams using both methods of ranking. The team that is generally the highest in most, if not all, categories is going to be able beat the majority of the teams when you look at each stat category and compare them one-by-one. The roto rankings are kind of the stat power rankings...how well everyone is doing in each category. I think your idea would essentially be applying that information into actual game results.

CBS-->Standings-->Breakdown

http://bbkl.hockey.cbssports.com/standings/breakdown

The stats seem fairly accurate to me, save for Boston, a great deal of their points are coming off domination in the goaltending category, and that stat category is second only to +/- in it's inherent unpredictability, that and Thomas numbers are in no way sustainable.

Yea, that overpaid backup i got is definitely helping me out. Lets hope he can sustain his 0.5 GAA for at least a couple more months. Than maybe we can deal with it going to 1 say.

I'm embarrassed...Perhaps I should change my approach, maybe there is something to karma, or universal kindness. With that in mind, I am going to make an honest effort to be more respectful and courteous in both victory and defeat.

Fuck that...Luke, you can go fuck yourself you lucky son of a bitch. I can't wait will week 20 to ruin your chance of making the playoffs, counting down the days baby, counting down the days...And Kyle, fuck you! You'll get your redemption in the playoffs BITCH!
