Why? It's a pretty fair value if you ask me. I'm happy with it, Yandle's been on an absolute tear!

Well for one, Yandle is an absolute star h2h defenceman, and is emerging as one of the very best offensive blueliners in hockey, and bad season or not, Zajac is an excellent second line centerman on any team. All for what? A nice H2H 3rd liner, a mediocre puck mover who has been on the decline for three seasons, and a struggling prospect (who I actually like), and a first that could finish anywhere from 5th last to 15th last. Say what you will, but I don't make that deal again from Vancouver's POV, and I don't think many would.

Ya, at the time I knew buying both Yandle and Zajac on a low was smart. Yandle had 14 points in 26 games I think and was a big minus (-8 or -9). Since the trade he's had 21 points in 19 games and has been a +9.. also has an assist today. I traded Zajac which I'll probably regret but it allowed me to fit in Lidstrom for the playoffs and Brian Boyle is an adequate replacement for the time being.

I definitely bought Yandle at the right time..

The real question should be: why are teams trading young stud players at a low, to get no further ahead? ;)

The value of youth is incredibly exaggerated in the BBKL. Their play and cap hit are by far the most important variables, teams trying to get younger is why so many teams have been destroyed here in the BBKL -> if the guys play indicated they are going to get better/worse obviously that's a major point, but also being aware that 5 game trends don't change what the player is capable of, over a season players are relatively predictable.

ie> Wiz has PPG+ on the Habs, but I'm not going to lie to you and claim that he's a ppg type dman... hopefully he touches 50-55 in what would be an incredible season for him. But in that same sense, Wheeler is 40+pts, pointing out the me that he's on pace for 38 or w/e doesn't make me want to trade him, it means he'll score more in the 2nd half then he did the first.
