That is really all it is...Either that or the likes of: Shiv, Kezia and Scott have never seen Markstrom play, which wouldn't shock me.
Markstrom is a 6'6 all world goaltender with elite athleticism and speed, at the age of 21, does that remind anyone of somebody? Rinne maybe?
This is a pure win now move, Rinne won't be on my team past this season, so I expect HUGE offers from everyone stating Arian could have gotten more. Steve seems to get it, and that is good enough for me because frankly I don't respect the rest of you (Scott notwithstanding, hes earned it).

I've sen Markstrom play, solid tender. And for the 5th time, I don't hate the deal for Arian.. I just would've taken a different approach.. that is all. It's Arian's team, he can trade whatever pieces for whatever pieces he sees fit.

You remarked that Arian did not get a substantial piece back, by what definition is Markstrom not a substantial piece?

Your opinion doesn't change the fact that Markstrom is a substantial piece. It's not something that is up for debate, Markstrom is widely regarded as the best goalie not in the NHL, has the credentials and numbers to back up his play, and is one of the most asked about young goalies in BBKL. That is a substantial piece, regardless of your opinion.

Wowa a heated trade debate!
rinne is tough to give up, but Markstrom is nice as well, no doubt. I'd like to have seen one more safe nice piece going for rinne.
Despite some people's views, a non-established goalie is always a risk. Fear in fla has gotta be talon trading for one he likes. Biggs and Paranteau do not cover that gap for me, not far off or a loss in any way, but I'd have kept Rinne at that difference.
Wish I didn't get involved. I see why Arian did it and think this 3rd year has been a much improved one for him.

I'm still gonna stick by my comments, this is a killer deal for Arian, and when Rinne's cap hit jumps to 7mil I don't see the return value in any deal(s) for Rinne.

How is 7mil speculation?
He just signed a 7 year 49mil contract!

Pekke Rinne has won 11 straight and 20 of his past 22 games since Dec. 6.

Thing people forget, Kareem got Rinne, but Arian got the system and he's got another nice young Swede in his back pocket as well (my very own Robin Lehner)

There are good goaltenders, there are elite goaltenders, and then there is Pekka Rinne.
