I've been looking for something that replicates the community/fun of CS for years. Kinda started doing this sort of stuff as a surrogate/replacement.Shep wroteCOLONI never got into it. Had a couple buddies that played religiously though.Mike wroteCOLONShep wroteCOLONWere you a big CS player, Mikey?
Yep, still my favourite game of all time.
Small community, but I was obsessively addicted to Quake 2 Digital Paintball (followed by the standalone DP 2.0)

Re: Midnight Launch: Mass Effect 3
They weren't big on the consoles, and the graphics card on the Xbox and PS2 didn't do them justice, but even ignoring that, no comparison to Halo.

Portal ftw.Mike wroteCOLONOrange Box is available for the 360. HL1 was released on PS2 as well.MSP4LYFE wroteCOLONI've played every Half Life game so it isn't an age thing, but Half Life is a computer game (even though it was released later on consoles). I'm referring specifically to console FPS'.Mike wroteCOLONTo each their own, but I put Half-Life well above Halo. If you could call the Portal series FPSs, they are right up there in the discussion of best ever...bills09 wroteCOLONPortal ftw.

Heard of it -- never played. As addictive as some claim it to be? Or just a niche?Mike wroteCOLONIf you could call the Portal series FPSs, they are right up there in the discussion of best ever...bills09 wroteCOLONPortal ftw.

amazing.
Re: Midnight Launch: Mass Effect 3
It's an amazing puzzle game disguised as a shooter. It's also very funny and charming. Did you ever play Chip's Challenge as a kid? Similar puzzles to that + humour + great story + Source engine.Chris wroteCOLONHeard of it -- never played. As addictive as some claim it to be? Thanks guys, will check it out!
Re: Midnight Launch: Mass Effect 3
Halo was the "cool" thing to be into the last 4 or 5 years. Besides the first one on the original xbox, I have to say that I think it's one of the most overrated series out there. It's not as if I have never played the games either, I've put in over 100 hours into them.Mike wroteCOLONTo each their own, but I put Half-Life well above Halo. There hasn't been a FPS that has even come close to Counter-Strike, console or CPU (I did love DoD though...).
PS. I am aware that I am likely in the minority when it comes to Halo, they have a huge cult like following.
Re: Midnight Launch: Mass Effect 3
It all comes down to skills... Games like CS Halo CoD are way more competitive, provided that the game has way higher ceiling of accomodation for all kinds of different pro gamers who compete in them, as it is simply a higher tier game than the one such as half-life, where its not really much multiplayer-driven compared to the aforementioned title. Games like Crysis and some new shooters just isn't gonna live up to the hype of having good graphics offline, as long as their poor online component and support backs them up. Most of those games have faded out now, but I'd say halo is still one of the most popular former shooters amongst men who could shoot.

Halo series is bloody phenomial, love every game theyve put out. Followed closely by Gears, so many things to love about that series too.

Re: Midnight Launch: Mass Effect 3
Halo went downhill every game they released imo, the first was a very solid game, and the series as a whole was good but definitely over rated. I was a huge Operation Flashpoint fan for a long time as well, dunno how many around here played it?

never played the original but I did pick up Dragon Rising for the PS3. The controls are a giant pain in the ass to get accustomed to, but once you do get the hang of it, it can be pretty enjoyable.Sensfanjosh wroteCOLONHalo went downhill every game they released imo, the first was a very solid game, and the series as a whole was good but definitely over rated. Re: Midnight Launch: Mass Effect 3
Mike, what level of CAL did you get up to? Remember the days on mIRC?
Re: Midnight Launch: Mass Effect 3
I'd fuck you all up at CS .
you didn't ask me Bry but I feel like bragging a little.
Season 11, 12 or 13 of CAL (can't remember which one), my team, Mindz of Violence, played in the CAL-IM championship match. I quit the compeitive scene after that as I got tired of it, the rest of the guys played Cal-M for a season.
had like 2k+ people watching on HLTV during the championship. was pretty boss.

Re: Midnight Launch: Mass Effect 3
Nice man, nice.
I have to say...competitive CS was the FUCKING SHIT (in a good way), back in the day.
I hope I am not the only person who used to watch the winter and summer CPL's? Such fun times...
