Could be the first Canadian cup since Montreal in...'93?
but seems NSH and WSH/PIT are the favourite though...

True. Edmonton can have all the offence they want but nsh still has a top 4 of

OTT would be a disaster for ratings, they can't even sell out their own building in the playoffs.

Exactly this. Not to mention it would be a short series. Karlsson might very well be the best player on the planet, but I don't think he can will that team past any of the remaining teams.

With apologies to the Sens fans here since it's fun to see your fav team win, but they have lucked out big time with the playoff format.
"In a 1-8 format Ottawa would have played No. 3 Columbus, then No. 2 Pittsburgh. Instead, No. 7 Boston, No. 5 NYR."

Not to mention Boston catching the injury bug.

With all due respect to Leaf fans, no one cares about your post-elimination posturing, the rules are the rules and the NHL plays its games according to them. Saying they should be different doesn't change reality.

i don't like seeing WSH/PIT 2nd round each year... ya rivalry.. fk that.. NHL is boring seeing the same 2nd round each year

Columbus wouldn't have been any tougher of a matchup than the Rangers though imo. I suspect that team massively overachieved in the regular season.

I prefer this format. You should 1st have to beat your rivals because professional teams build their teams with their rivals in mind how to beat them. Then you win your conference. Then you win the cup. Sure you get some weird seeding sometimes like this season, but I would prefer to have rivals playing each other in the playoffs.

1st time we have ever agreed.
The best playing team from either conference gets to the finals regardless.

The crossover screws that up though and goes against that rivalry angle.

Those weren't the rules for most of my hockey watching life though so I think discussing it is warranted.
Just be happy we didn't get the chance to beat you in the first round

Well, I would have preferred they had gone with the original plan of 4 playoff teams per division rather than the 3,3, 2 WC format. Perhaps they revisit that when the divisions become balanced.
