That's a good point you make. Gelinas is seen as an offense only dman and yet has very comparable periphs, outside of SHTOI, while absolutely dominating Coburn offensively.
Harrold is also a defensive dman.
I'll let you point out whose stats are whose from their latest game:

Now, I think it's fair to say that Coburn probably won't get much better than his best season in 2006. Does anyone see him putting up .. say... 40 points.. at this point in his career?
In his 36 points, season, he had 79 blocks and 79 hits, and had 2.10 SHTOI. 78 GP. 6 years ago... Same age as Gelinas, more or less. Playing on a very good flyers team.
Gelinas last year had 29 points with 99 hits, 20 blocks, and didn't kill penalties. in 60 games.
This year, he played a majority of his games under a coach that absolutely hated him, who has since been fired. On a team that blows.

For all of Harrolds defensive accumen, he didn't play a second of the final 7 minutes of the game while Gelinas was out for the last 1:37 of the game.

And only periph Gelinas is really comparable to Coburn in is hits. Even in a down year Coburn over an 82 game season would be pacing 18 pts, 120 or so hits and blocks, and approaching 200 min shtoi. He is the Flyers best defender and isn't changing anytime soon. Gelinas will never pk bc his defensive game just won't ever be that good and Larsson, Severson, Merill, and Greene aren't going anywhere. I think you are severely underselling Coburn's value in this league.

Larsson saw 3 seconds of ice time in the final 2 minutes and Zids got 43 seconds...
Could that mean that Gelinas is more dangerous offensively tham his 13 points would lead us to believe?

He has 12 more PIM and a -1 +/- differential. I'd call both of those comparable or far exceeding.
Again, this is for someone 6 years younger and a fraction of the cost.

Gelinas is only shafted cuz lou lammy is back to being bench boss and hes traditional. He doesn't use young guns too hard

Id say straight is borderline fair. Maybe a 2nd rounder as an add
