Nobody's offer is good enough as is. I'm more or less getting an idea of who is interested and we can negotiate from there. I'm looking at this week as a chance for any team that's interested to throw out an initial offer. Next week, I'll single out some teams and make some counter-offers and find some common ground.

A trade isn't a guarantee. I might ask for too much. I just need one team that is willing to pay. This will be a case of having to overpay simply because there's enough interest league-wide...I'm going to shop around and get the best possible deal.

I've sent out PMs to everyone who has expressed interest in the #1 pick.

If anyone thinks I'm asking for too much, then I know I'm on the right track. This is not a deal where I'm looking to settle on just the stuff you want to give me. Matthews' value is unknown at this point so gauging what makes a fair deal is kind of tricky. I don't want to think I didn't get enough in return so there's no guarantee that I reach a deal with any of you. I at least wanted to explore this option if I could make my team better. I appreciate everyone's cooperation.

All 4 assets have been moved in 3 separate deals. Tried to get all 3 deals around the same time because I had some specific needs to address and I think I did well to improve the immediate health of my team while staying younger and moving myself gradually out of the bottom of the league.

In total...

Sam Bennett
P.K. Subban
2016 1st Rounder (DET)
2016 2nd Rounder (CAR)
2016 3rd Rounder (MON)

for

Brock Boeser
Justin Braun
Michael Del Zotto
Adin Hill
Tyler Johnson
Anders Lee
Josh Morrisey
Tanner Pearson
2016 1st Rounder (NSH)
2016 1st Rounder (NYI)
2017 2nd Rounder (WAS)
2017 3rd Rounder (FLA)

Forwards: I essentially add an entire line to my forward group. All still relatively young guys and have room to improve. Johnson had a rough year with injuries but is a year removed from a 72 point season. His role with the Lightning beyond this year depends on the Stamkos situation. He's had a strong playoff as the #1 center on the team. Pearson and Lee are similar players...bigger guys that hit and can score 20+ goals. Both are second line guys with their teams. Lee is signed for a few more years and Johnson and Pearson are due raises after next season.

Defense: With Del Zotto and Braun, I lose quite a bit of offense in the exchange but add two players with strong periphs and both play prominent top 4 roles on their teams. Braun is in the first year of a 5 year deal with the Sharks. Del Zotto will be due a raise next summer. Morrissey may or may not help my team next year. I'm hoping he will. That Winnipeg roster is so intriguing right now with their young players.

Futures: I trade the top pick but I still end up with two picks later in the 1st round. I'm still going to be able to add some talent to the prospect pool. I have 14 picks total in 2016. I added a 2nd and 3rd next year when I didn't have any picks until the 4th round. Boeser was a guy I identified as a player I wanted to add. He had a 60 point freshman year...3rd in the nation in scoring. He's probably my new #1 prospect. Adin Hill was a throw in but he's a goalie in the Arizona system so he has value to my team.

Next phase of the offseason focuses clearly on the draft. I might tinker with draft position I'm intending add plenty of prospects.

I'm not flipping any of the pieces I just acquired. The next trades I make involving players will be around July 1 with the start of free agency. I have a lot of veteran players needing new contracts or may be deciding to hang 'em up. I need to do some roster pruning this summer.
