I just read this. Essentially a move Holland can make:
1. Sign Nabby, Call him up.
2. Get one of the low teams in the standings to pick him up.
3. Trade Hudler for Nabby + something.

With the overpayment Neel will most likely want for a 1-2 year goalie and what everyone else will be wanting for a goalie.. if Nabakov signs and clears waivers I might as well tear it down. The NJ Devils will, unfortunately be rebuilding.. it'll make more sense.

I'm not kidding.. Neel would probably want a major piece of my team and I'm not going to do that. I'd much rather pay major pieces for younger players/top picks and set myself up for next season and beyond. Nabakov's garbage and old balls. Maybe your scenario is possible shiv with the other team just waiving him again.If claimed on waivers by another team, Nabokov cannot be traded or waived again without DET having first option to take him back.
Edit: Correction all teams that made a claim would have preference, so if another team made a claim ahead of Detroit, the wings lose preference.
