You guys are talking about the best year EVER, the late 1st is star-filled, and expecting any draft year to compare to 2003 lacks logic, yet alone a draft year that has been questionable for the past 2+ years.
I don't think you understand what I mean. I simply mean that the scout that compared the 2 drafts was probably referring to the potential NHLers there are from 2011.. not superstars. 2011 lacks top end skill but a lot of depth with NHL skill throughout.

Obviously this draft isn't going to come close to producing the stars 2003 did.. but I'd bet there will be plenty of quality NHLers that come from 2011.

Nick/all the other hockey fans that like to play scout have been down talking this draft for a while.

The fact of the matter is, in any given draft, due to the law of large numbers alone, almost always are there a lot of quality NHLers that result. Just because a draft has a superstar like Perry does not mean it is a better draft year than one that does not. The quality of a draft is determined by the amount of players that make the NHL in a quality role <--- This is almost universal for every draft post lockout anyways.

This is not to mention comparing a draft in 2003 to a draft in 2011 is ridiculous. 2011 could easily produce players that are stars in 2019. 8 years is a long fucking time lol.

2003 Will still be talked about 9 years from now. Shiv take a look at that draft again....

None the less totally dismissing this draft isn't fair either.

oh no i agree. 2003 was one of the best drafts ever. my point was simply that dismissing this year by comparing it to that year does not make sense to me.

You said aside form star power, and I asked how deep in 2003 do you consider star-power, the entire first round? Recently - I keep hearing that this is a good draft that just lacks top end skill, most often the 'top-end' is the first 4 or 5 selections, now in 2003 absolutely dominant players can be found everywhere in the draft, the top 60 picks are insane NHLers, lots of guys better then early 1st rounders from surrounding years. Now if you said 2001 w/o the top 2 (Kovalchuk & Spezza), or 2002 w/o the top 4 (Nash, Lethonen, JayBo, MVP)... Why compare any part of this draft to 2003, which is a complete anomaly and was seen coming by scouts for 3+ years...weird...AAA onwards... the same way 2011 was. Please don't confuse that w/not liking some prospects, just IMO the prices are higher then 2010, which was a good draft.

# of NHLers seems like a pretty silly basis to make a comparison IMO. Hell, shittiest draft year I can think of (1999) produced a lot of NHLers right up until the 4th round...Malone, Erat, and Zetty in the late rounds.

Unrelated but a better topic -> Anyone else thinking the hiring of Cronin as the new AC increases the odds we (leafs) grab some USNDP kids?
