Wow, that would've been a major botch but I'm with Kyle...didn't that apply to just UFAs? The Avs still had O'Reilly's rights regardless...I don't remember recently a midseason offer sheet involving an overseas RFA so maybe this was the rule all along.

If true it kinda neuters the in-season offer sheet.

ROR was on COLS list, so he would not have to clear for COL, but would for CAL...
Is what I'm hearing.

Couldn't Calgary keep him in the minors till offseason to prevent losing him?

Nope, he would have been automatically placed on. I personally don't understand how a team doesn't check this.
1. The GM/Assistant GMs should be asking this question right away?
2. How does a move like this get pushed through without getting the legal team involved?
3. If the legal team was involved, how did they miss the sections on waivers regarding this section?
It makes no sense.

Just means that CGY woulda traded for his RFA rights I believe - if COL wasn't going to match - or something.

Can't be traded once the offer sheet has been signed, iirc.

It's only because he played in Europe after the NHL season started.

Bob Mac says if Col traded ROR from its RFA list ot Cgy, he would be exempt. That is a big if and presumes there would be no cooperation from a team preying on its RFA with offersheet..

I've already offered to rescind the trade. Good working relationships are better than a few crappy assets for a crappy retiring player.

All good, Lee - you won the deal fair and square. Appreciate the sentiment though.

Defenseman Mike Green didn’t skate Friday and won’t make the trip to Winnipeg with the Capitals this afternoon because he aggravated the groin injury that caused him to miss three games in February.
