we have won 29 games and lost 33
YEP.
Leafs are below .500 in W:L ratio.
Leafs are above .500 win PTS:GP ratio.
The latter is what the new NHL considers ".500"

calling a Tie a Loss is incorrect.
calling a Tie a Win is incorrect.
If you're dead set on the black and white break down of W vs L, then you need to ignore those games.

Where are these ties you speak of? Teams are splitting points?

I'm not ignoring the loss portion of it, but you're choosing to ignore the overtime/SO detail...It is not a loss in the sense of a dichotomy, incorrect categorization.

Sorry, my previous response actually did.

so you admit a OTL is a loss, but maintain that we have won more games than we've lost.

HAHA, I said it's somewhat like a loss (a portion of a Loss), but, no it does not fit into a dichotomy comparison of wins versus losses. Is that actually hard to comprehend?

its so illogical to me that you honestly believe the leafs have won more than they've lost, so i guess ya, it's difficult to comprehend.

You're trying to dichotomize and variable with 3 outcomes...the analytical process to do so is a justified split of the middle category, or more often the case, remove those outcomes (especially when trying to look for the truth of a phenomena) or find the simplest comparison (in this case a black and white view on wins versus losses).

a team goes 1-0-81 on the season and you would argue that they've have won more than they've lost.

1-0 in the truest sense of this nonsensical breakdown, sure; however it's not an accurate breakdown or representation of what the team achieved.

Much more interesting to me is the effect of Shootout wins... NJD with 10... this is a very poor representation in terms of team success and an even worse indication of top 16 teams heading into the playoffs. They only have 25 wins in regulation and OT.
