How Playoffs Work Under the New NHL Divisions
-Top 3 teams in each division make the playoffs.
-Wild card teams are seeded seventh and eighth in each Conference (allowing for a maximum of 5 teams from one division per conference in the playoffs).
-Division winners are seeded first and second in each Conference and meet the wild card teams in the opening round of the playoffs. (1-versus-8 and 2-versus-7).
-Teams finishing second and third in each Division play the first round of the playoffs within the Division regardless of how teams are seeded 3-6.
-After the first round, teams are reseeded and the next round's match-ups are determined.
Will be making updates weekly to this page. If someone can sticky it, that would be great. Also, if people would like to help with the standings, PM me your g-mail and I can invite you. 2-3 people should make sure this gets updated in case someone gets busy/goes on vacation etc.
Also, if you see an error in the "How Playoffs Work" above, please let me know. Thanks!

Yes, of course doing a wild card.
Added notations to Standings to explain how it works (note: if I have it wrong, someone tell me but I'm pretty sure I've done it right).

Nice work Shiv!
the only thing i'm not sure about is the last point:
"-After the first round, teams are reseeded and the next round's match-ups are determined."

Just to confirm, we are still using points for standings, and not our actual win-loss ratio right (referring to the far right column if that is unclear)? I know Nick had brought up this problem in the summer...

Yeah, not too many people wanted to go straight win-loss. Points it is.

Maybe I'm missing something. But let's say 5 teams make it from the Atlantic and 3 make it from the Metropolitan. It's not possible for Round 2 to be inter-divisional then...

Maybe not. This is what it says.
The Stanley Cup Playoffs will still consist of 16 teams, eight in each conference, but it will be division-based and a wild-card system has been added.
The top three teams in each division will make up the first 12 teams in the playoffs. The remaining four spots will be filled by the next two highest-placed finishers in each conference, based on regular-season points and regardless of division. It will be possible, then, for one division to send five teams to the postseason while the other sends three.
The seeding of the wild-card teams within each divisional playoff will be determined on the basis of regular-season points. The division winner with the most points in the conference will be matched against the wild-card team with the fewest points; the division winner with the second-most points in the conference will play the wild-card team with the second fewest points.
The teams finishing second and third in each division will play in the first round of the playoffs. The winners of each series will play for berths in the conference championship series.
The winners of the conference championships advance to the Stanley Cup Final.

Yeah It's so abstract. Can someone look into this please? I've tried Googling but wasn't able to find a definite answer. It's important because our Playoffs happen before the NHL's playoffs.
