Dunedin is a cute little town actually - one of the few cities I found quite hospitable on the south island. not saying the south island isn't amazing (it's the most beautiful place i've ever been) but while i thoroughly enjoyed camping/backpacking through it, there weren't many places i'd consider actually living. christchurch was in pieces at that time. invercargill was a bit TOO local (if that makes sense) and queenstown is a fucking tourist wreck (but still beautiful).

if anyone gets the chance to travel NZ though, fuckin do it. camper van is the way to go. camping restrictions are minimal.

I've got 3 weeks to kill travelling Oz from the start of February onward. Flying into Sydney and finishing in Cairns, wasn't planning on going to Melbourne, but pretty worth it eh?

it's more of a place to live than visit i'd say. amazing public transit, a friendly/safe downtown core and a huge part of it's charm is finding all the amazing hidden bars and restaurants through word of mouth, but it doesn't have the big tourist attractions that a sydney or the gold coast would have.

but it's an amazing place to live. i could've stayed forever but my visa expired and i didn't want to leave and work on a remote farm in order to extend it.

if you're traveling up the coast from sydney to cairns you will pretty much hit all the major spots. if you've got limited time in aus, that's the chunk of coast to do. stop in at my old hometown mooloolaba and see whats up. super chill beach town.

87 born, went to the French school up on (Walton I think?) St. Jean, thuogh left before middle school. Grew up near what was then the Highlands golf course, I think it's Interwest or Clublink now...

Ya its clublink (still public though) - I grew up by there too, 10 minute walk from Aurora High. I'm an 88 - do you know Nathan Rivard? Did you play hockey or soccer at all?

I was just off Seaton south of the golf course. Don't recognize the name but yep, played both, though only a couple seasons of soccer as a wee lad.
