Im actually blown away by the value people put on these picks. To me, if its not a 1st or 2nd, its not worth the time in research for a 1/100 chance to maybe get a player that may play 25 games in the nhl in some year, maybe.

It's not really value on picks for me as much as I don't value sestito

I don't see why not. Half your team is injured or Minor players and the other half is drawing old age security. I wouldn't be too picky

Success rate of first-round draft picks

Of the 494 career players drafted in the 1990s, 160 were selected in the first round.
Of those 160 career players, over half have played more than 500 NHL games.
Among the older players (those drafted from 1990 to 1994), six first-round picks have made it to 1,000 games. Another couple of dozen are still active and within reach of 1,000.
Based on the 1990s sample, a first-round draft pick has a 63 percent chance of being a career player.
Results can vary widely from year to year:
The 1993 NHL Draft produced 22 career players from 26 first-round picks.
In 1999, less than half of the first-round selections went on to become career players (12 out of 28).
Beyond the first round.

This is where the NHL dream begins to fade in a hurry:
From 1990 to 1999, about one-quarter of the players selected in the second round turned into NHL career players.
Those drafted in the third round and beyond are really up against it.
From over 2,000 players selected in the third round and beyond during 1990s, just 261 made it as NHL career players. That's about 12 percent.

Ya most picks are a crap shoot no doubt

Now Don't get me wrong if you have 3,4 or 5 3rd and 4th round picks odds are you may get lucky with one of the 7 picks. the problem with that is the teams in BBKL who have all the picks are also at roster maximum so you are making the decision to dump players that may turn out to be gems. Ask Mik about Marcus Foligno and Jared Spurgeon.

I dont have numerical data to support this, but I feel that from 2010, way higher percentage of draftees make it to the NHL in due time
In my opinion, draft picks are logically getting more and more valuable.

There's a huge leap in scouting from 1990 to 2015.

That's the problem with Sestito, you already waived him once with no takers and now instead of asking for any pick you can get you ask for a 3rd when he has no NHL future since he isn't all of a sudden going to start playing well in his 30s.

I wouldn't be surprised if that's true Paul. The salary cap has forced teams to depend even more on draft picks on ELCs. Probably results in more spending in scouting and development resources and staff.

Anyways, a 3rd round pick likely never becomes as good as Sestito in bbkl. Not to mention you get a 6th to roll the dice on as well. I'm sure someone who needs a guy would make this deal.

I waived him at the beginning of the year at the same time everybody else waived there players. Im not claiming him to be a rockstar or even make my team but when people talk about others hoarding players in there minors while they dress rosters with players that are not even playing, thats an issue. It has to suck being penalized on your pick when games played is not met. I offered a waiver pick with a 6th as well instead. I would bet that since BBKL started there is way more talent picked in the first round of our waiver draft than all the third round picks combined. Its not a big deal. Love to see the results of every single player picked in the third round of BBKL since we started and see how many have played NHL games. If im sitting there with holes in my roster and i can get a warm body for a third round pick im all over it. I guess i am crazy. That is why I have no picks and that is why you have such a solid team now. You were handed a bunch of picks and this league over values picks so you cashed in on that and did an amazing job at it.
