Draft is still months away

But I just can't help but feel excited for the emergence of Connor McDavid, as many of us Canadian/American residents who get to study and watch his hype through games/analysis. I want us to have a single dedicated thread for this and discuss in ALL aspects, of how these two 10 year gap generational players compare because that's what everyone is talking about and rightfully so. Post thoughts/personal analysis/proven analysis/stats/pics/vids ANYTHING Connor/Sid related whenver u want up until draft day for us to indulge in our hockey sense as well as craving needs to open up possibilities of what we think the NHL will become 1-2 years from now with Connor's emergence.

A franchise center, Crosby is a brilliant playmaker who sees the ice extremely well. He can use his blinding speed to blow by opponents, or challenge them using his superb stickhandling abilities. Plays with a lot of grit despite his size and is a very good faceoff man.

I've been quietly watching any Erie games I could get my hands on within alotted time through this season.
Connor seems to be, an obvious slight size advantage in height, and looks a bit faster to me as well. It's been a while since I've last watched Sid's QMJHL games but I am sure he was skinny then as well. I can then only assume Connor will add muscles quickly in transition for the NHL soon and be a force.

Crosby to me, seem more a visionary guy that sorta glide on ice... he's always used quickness of his hands complimented with his strong lower body to get past enemies. Connor to me, seem more a crisp multi-directional skater that has certain chops to his stick-handling that he makes look so easy. His current moreso lanky-status may make him look/play that way.

Meh...more than just a talent comparison. Crosby saved the PIT franchise from being sold and shipped outta town. Ideally, I would like to see McDavid go to Arizona as this franchise NEEDS him so bad. Bettman would be smart to rig this lottery.

Anyway ya if McDavid can do this, then he's up there with Squid.

I'm also interested in more a personal in-depth, OBSESSION-esque comparisons that rises out of our burning hearts and desire to be a hardcore of all hockey fans. This is what the thread is about mainly, rather than objective, real life implications/external factors of franchise direction/what they will do for that team X etc

You kinda missed what I said though. The character trait of being able to throw an entire franchise on your back and carry it too success is Crosby-esque. Very few have this. I think if what Gretzky did to LA and California hockey in general. Tavares has had a similar effect in Long-Island but not to the same extent as NYI still seems to be wavering in terms of franchise stability. Toews was blessed with the city of Chicago which has been strong for a long time.

So my question is does McDavid have the personal qualities/traits to lead an entire city out of the dungeon and back to NHL respectability as like Crosby? I don't know. It is an intriguing question.

Franchise direction is partly external but partly tied to player performance. so I don't see how you can remove this out of the equation. I don't know if McDavid has this in him.

funny how all those people arguing the lottery would be rigged in the Crosby year mentioned all sort of teams as his recipient and no one thought of Pittsburgh.. and now of course they say it was rigged to give him to Pittsburgh, LMAO

Pitt was on the verge of tanking/folding/bankruptcy, their savior and face of the franchise, Mario, was hemorrhaging money and they randomly win the lottery to get the greatest prospect ofthe last few decades...

and somehow no one back before the lottery mentioned Pittsburgh as the beneficiary of the rig... it was all "oh my got Buttman will give Crosby to the desperate Rangers".. "oh my god he will give him to some southern franchises he needs to save"

Pittsburgh was so obvious that somehow no one thought it was the most convenient destination for the league....

So you think this ARZ melt down is a one-year blip and there is little chance of them repeating a top three pick?

To keep it on topic though: it is worth noting the types of players these guys play with does impact overall value of the player. Crosby had Malkin, J.Staal, Fluery, Letang etc. Gretzky in EDM had Messier, Coffey, Kurri, etc, and in LAK he had lucky luc, Nicholls, Duchene. If McDavid can play with other elite talent, it will make him more valued.

I highly doubt any pro sports draft lotteries are rigged. They hire high-reputation firms to audit the lottery. I'm sure the firms would not risk their reputation over a sports team winning a lottery. I doubt the NHL wouldn't pay them the money it would take for them to consider such a risk.

Although if Arizona wins the lottery I'm sure I'll wonder lol.

If the Leafs don't get McDavid I do hope a small-market team does. I believe he can have the effect the Crosby did on the Penguins as long as they surround him with a solid team.
