He never played a moment for Tampa Bay. He was flipped for Ted Purcell then immediately to PHX along with Crombeen for a 6th. Tampa was clearing cap space.

Clearing space meaning not one other team in the NHL wanted Gagner for free and they had to retain salary to get someone to take his contract.

Tampa acquired Gagner because he was easier to buy out than Purcell, but Arizona wanted Gagner so they package him with Crombeen for a 6th.

Arizona traded for him because they wanted him, not because he is worthless.
