i'd say vanek and gaborik are pretty equal players these days, and vanek may even be a bit more productive over the last few regular seasons.

Agreed. Gaborik will never escape his injury prone plaugued past in my mind either. Something that I highly doubt will get better with age. I take Vanek over Gaborik without question.

you potientially could have got more, sure, but you cut cap and i think that was your goal. It's not like Zetts isn't as injury prone as Gabby, and they are roughly the same age, so it's not horrible.

the point was somehow they were talking Gaborik/Vanek instead of Zetterberg/Vanek.

as for their age, Gaborik is actually younger than Zetterberg.

I personally would take vanek over gaborik. That said his cap is 1.6 more and that defeated the purpose of trading zetts.
