NEW BBKL Schedule

So we are going with the 82 gamer?
Yes, we are toying with Fantrax atm on how to set it all up. Once we figure that out were going to wait for the real nhl schedule to release in the summer. We will then tweak it for our playoffs, removing home at homes so you dont play the same team twice in one week, etc. It's a process but it's on going.
just happened:
http://www.nhl.com/ice/schedulebyseason.htm

time to make those intentions a reality.

Btw, don't know where this argument was discussed (if anyone does, please link here), but the first thing is to officially define the number of weeks we are going to have for RS and PO.

don't remember if we can manually set weeks' length on Fantrax. If we can't, I guess we will have 5 playoffs weeks?

if there are 21 RS weeks... 20 with 4 opponents and a shorter one with 2?

well, in an ideal world where we could set weeks' length I'd push for spreading the first 3 rounds over 4 weeks (like 9+9+10 days),on top of having a 2 full weeks final.

Makes sense to me. 4 matchups x 21 weeks is 84...so we'll have to have two weeks of just 3 matchups to get 82. I'd point to opening week and Week 12 with the Christmas break in the middle...both are abbreviated weeks.

Was thinking the same thing Shoalzie; good call. Now it's a matter of adjusting for home at homes and such and we can start playing with Fantrax and the schedule.

if we will indeed have 5 playoff weeks and 21 RS weeks, we should have those 3-matchups weeks on periods #1 and #12

The other question is...do we follow the NHL schedule or just use the schedule matrix and create the matchups?

Probably best to follow the NHL....

We'd want to mimic the schedule structure of the NHL in terms of divisional and out of division games and if we keep that structure is makes sense to just follow the entire schedule rather than worrying about generating the proper matchups within that structure on our own.

True except for the fact of home at homes. We don't want you playing the same team twice during a weekly matchup. We'll be manually adjusting those games but otherwise we will follow the NHL schedule as much as possible.

Is there any real harm in having teams play twice in one week? Realize its not a big deal either way, but trying to save some work for you guys and don't really see any real disadvantage of this outside of some guys might feel they got a raw deal if they had injuries one week and faced a divisional rival- but at the same time that's what happens in the NHL under the same circumstances right? Just playing devil's advocate.

I don't believe there is a Fantrax option to mimic the NHL schedule so we will have to enter it anyways. Won't be much more work to ensure we aren't playing the same team twice in one week. I think playing teams the same amount of times is more important then playing them in the same order.

Fair enough, if the work load is the same it makes no difference, just didn't see the reason behind creating more work to avoid the situation.

As an aside I'd be willing to help with the data entry of setting up the schedule if this is something that can take place over the summer months.
