Goalie talk: suggestions to improve GGP/goalie value
Re: Goalie talk: suggestions to improve GGP/goalie value
There isn't a solution IMO.
We have a 30 man league so there will always be issues. If anything just lower ggp and that might help a little

Simple, if you have 2 goalies (2 backups, starter, etc...) and one goes down with an injury you're given a pass on games played.
Especially if you're trying to compete. It's easy for the league to see if you're trying to tank or trying to compete.
Eliminating games played due to injury will lower the price of goalies. We all win (for those who care anyways).

Love Steve's idea. Only thing is that a team could start with 2 then trade them both mid season and tank. Would they need to keep 2 goalies all year? A certain number of weeks/days?

CC says it's a blatant tank job then? I agree that there should be a formalized process to stop a subversion such as this

Re: Goalie talk: suggestions to improve GGP/goalie value
my idea rules against that. You can't outright trade your goalies, that's tanking and would be fined accordinly
Re: Goalie talk: suggestions to improve GGP/goalie value
Just lower waiver elidgibilty for goalies would force nhl starters or backups to end up on waivers
Otherwise the system is fine pay for your system and quit crying

Re: Goalie talk: suggestions to improve GGP/goalie value
Currently 75 gp and 22 i would vote for a 65gp and 22
Which would be a season and a half of split starts or one monster rookie goaltender season
Would also judge by goalie starts not ggp

How many goalies would a 10ggp drop really affect? I'd be curious to know.
Re: Goalie talk: suggestions to improve GGP/goalie value
In the other league a bunch are in that was the rule change I supported and felt would keep teams from hoarding NHL goalies in the minors. We went as low as 30GP since the theory behind it is once a backup has 30NHL games under his belt he is usually in the NHL to stay. Teams could still carry a 3rd goalie on the bench, but the goal is to stop full time NHL goalies from being buried in the minors.
Re: Goalie talk: suggestions to improve GGP/goalie value
I like it Matt. I think we are going to have a very healthy list of players on waivers this year with the changes.
Re: Goalie talk: suggestions to improve GGP/goalie value
Only change in this league this year was dropping the age from 28 to 26, but it will add a few players. I think 120GP is a good number for skaters, but I would support lowering goalie GP.
Steve's suggestion is good too, but I was of the understanding the league already works this way. If you miss GGP due to injury and show you have made an effort to obtain a goalie the penalty would be much more lenient then when Hong missed GGP and refused to trade for a goalie and lost his 1st.

Like both Matt and Steve's ideas. This year waiver age is 26 right?
Re: Goalie talk: suggestions to improve GGP/goalie value
Pretty sure there would be a lot of unforeseen issues with Matt's suggestion.

It's already in place in another league. The only issue is you can't have waiver exempt goalies with 30+GP meaning less goalies buried in the minors. Obviously it's too late to implement now and I'm not saying we should.Matthew wroteCOLONPretty sure there would be a lot of unforeseen issues with Matt's suggestion.
Yes age is 26 this season Mike.
