kimmer wroteCOLONHey I have a question...
Billy and I have been using non-waiver exempt guys as LTIR replacements time to time... is this ok?...lol
I'd need more details, but most likely not ok. Were you aware that you might be breaking rules and not asking anyone?
The only people that can be used as LTIR replacements are those who were not previously on your roster (players from the minors, FA signings, and players you traded for).

i thought the rule was that replacements could be waiver eligible players but they'd have to stay on the roster after the LTIR player is reactivated or else they'd be subject to waivers as regular.
didn't do it anyways
fine them all!

That was my understanding as well Arian, you can't not waive waiver eligible guys to get back under the cap once I player is healthy, but otherwise the replacements could be named without regard to status.

Mike clear this up for us?

That was my understanding too.
Lets say an NHL team is at the cap and place a player on LTIR they then call up someone from their AHL team as relief. When the player returns the team must then become cap compliant again by either sending a waiver exempt player down or waiving a player so long as enough salary is off the books to activate the injured player again.

The player simply can't already be on your roster. If I have a player on my roster I want to use as a replacement I will send him down and recall him. If he's waiver eligible I won't do that as I'd lose him on waivers on the way down.

Either way....
If you would look at my spreadsheet, only weeks 3 and 4 should be trouble weeks, where I would be over the cap ceiling had I not put Clitsome on LTIR and just on short term IR; other weeks are completely cap compliant even if Clitsome would not have been on LTIR. So not sure if you wanna just punish me for the weeks 3 and 4 and chalk it up as warning or what. I've never done this before I don't think, so... pm me what u would like to do thxx

Don't think there should be punishment. Clearly there was confusion with the rule by multiple GMs. Make an official update on wording and everyone will be on notice.

I don't get this. If he's already on your roster, why would you have to put the guy on LTIR....only IR.

Cuz I wanted to save cap space by assigning dudes as cap relief... And just thought I could pick up to 3 guys on my roster that could be used to relieve the said player going on LTIR

If weeks 1 2 5 6 7 were ok cap-wise without having clitsome on LTIR, I don't even know why I put him on it... I was stupid either way.

So just to be clear if I want to put an NHL player on LTIR I can only use waiver exempt players for his cap otherwise I'm going to lose all my players to waivers? This seems needlessly complex and not really at all in line with real NHL practice, not to mention it doesn't really make sense.

I've been using my on roster players for cap exemption. I think this conversation was about call ups from the minors for LTIR replacement on your roster, or am i mistaken.
