I had two offers that included better draft picks, but this trade does provide me better GP coverage, and some nice upside in Leipsic.

I would have honestly stayed in the 8-12 range, but I hear the Cs all go stupid early so that scared me away. So now I'll just go BPA all the way!

There are not as many center in this draft anyway. Its a winger/dman year. Wouldnt be surprised to see a handful of these guys go early tho.

I think a few of the centers in this years first round are probably wingers in the NHL anyway, last years draft was definitely the center year.

With having to ensure I get GP this year in order to protect my 1st round pick next year, I had to sacrifice a little value in the draft pick - so yes, alot is riding on Leipsic turning into a useful full-time player. If he can play like he did with Horvat and Boeser before the injuries got to them all, he could be a gem.

I think leipsic probably falls down to a middle six spot once a few more of vancouvers prospects begin breaking in. I think he will be a solid middle six guy tho.

Very possible. You never know though. When you find a line that clicks, you don't mess with it.

Good add for the Oilers but the Blackhawks are sticking to their plan...makes sense for both sides.

Muzzin is a great player indeed, but I needed GP protection and this helps me out for the next several years. The value between 10 and 17 isn't that far off in this draft, and the drop is worth being able to protect my 1st overall pick next year which will really be the first cornerstone of my rebuild.

This is the reason i like the lottery. No matter how bad someone makes their team, they arent guaranteed 1st overall a year in advance and are even unlikely to win it. I will really enjoy MY 1st overall pick next year.

If I miss GP, then I am guaranteed not to have 1st overall. Need to give my team the best odds possible is all I'm saying.

I think you're on the right track. You need to refill the pool of picks and prospects but at the same time, you need to have active roster. You probably don't have the pieces to get high up in the draft but you can accumulate a lot of assets in that middle and late part of the 1st round and build some nice organizational depth. You've got your pick next year which could be a major piece in your rebuild. Keep up the good work.

Thanks Shoalzie! Some good competition here for the top rebuilding squad. Seems there is a top 10 race for the top, top 10 race for the bottom and then everyone in between haha.
