seems fair, Scott adds the top names, but Mike keeps stats and drops cap.

Upgrading Braun to Letang was the start of the deal and Mike introduced the Lee/van Riemsdyk component. He's wanted Petersen since he signed with the Kings...he's obviously collecting those goalies. As Steve said...Mike trims a lot of salary and doesn't lose much statistically if at all.

I add a lot of salary but still have a few million to spare. The players involved are close in age. I don't think I consider trading Lee if Tavares hadn't left for Toronto. van Riemsdyk is very capable of scoring 30 but maybe not 40. I'm intrigued by what he'll do back in Philadelphia. Letang's got the questionable health but when he plays...he puts up numbers. He's very much like Malkin in that he won't play all 82 but will stuff the stat sheet when he plays. Braun's value has steadily climbed the last couple years...been pleased with his play.

Im confused
Ur sayin jvr will score 30 but not 40
Brauns value increased amd ur pleased but u traded him lol

Both signs point toward no trading for jvr and not trading braun lol

Letang is the upgrade I was looking for in the deal. He'll get me 20-30 more points compared to Braun. Braun is on the upswing production-wise while Letang is the more proven (and more productive) player...while being the same age. I was just being complimentary towards the way Braun has played. I didn't think when I acquired him two years ago that I could flip him for a guy like Letang.

The swap of Lee for JVR isn't a huge downgrade (if you can even call it that). Lee might beat him in hits but the rest of the stats should be similar. My thinking is Lee has a bit of a drop in productive without Tavares. I think there's a good chance Lee and JVR score the same number of goals...and no I'm not fishing for a draft pick bet. As I said, if Tavares is still on the island and centering Lee...I don't even consider doing this trade.

I thought this was a big win for Scott originally, but he is talking me into thinking the players he traded away aren't that far off and Mike saves a lot of cap which I'm guessing he needed.

If Letang stays healthy still really like it for Shoalzie, but probably more fair than I thought when I first saw it.

The Peterson add is what has me on the fence- he has a lot of value to Mike and if the other pieces are all relatively close with Mike saving cap then it seems like Mike takes the W.

As a guy trying move up in the Atlantic, it does seem a bit counter-productive to help one of the contenders out of cap hell but let's be honest, Mike is going to have a rough time of it next summer as well. Matthews, Wheeler, Simmonds, Bergeron and Lee are all free agents. He'll have some interesting decisions to make.
