How quickly things can change around here... baring a jaw-dropping offer, the 3rd overall pick is off the table. Happy to talk pick 23 for roster players under the age of 30 as well as a multiple asset trade down scenario. Not looking for anything past round 3.

That's not how it works. Regardless of if you need a dman they aren't top 5 picks in the draft. You don't reach for need when there are superior prospects on the board.

And that's how those GM's get fired in real life too. Negligible difference in value is one thing to draft for need, but not with a top 5 pick or any 1sr round pick for that matter when 2 players aren't even in the same tier.

Impossible to declare that at the draft, which is why sometimes taking for need is a good idea. Many scouts have different tiers, and we all know that scouting isn't a perfect science.
