With the way my teams' been playing - it'll certainly be the Hawks in last place (pre-lotto). Huge step back this year with Comtois putting up Donuts, Stutzle not doing a whole lot and the goalies just been awful in general.

I'm still looking for the best explanation of how this new lottery format works for 2022. The main bullet points are there's only two draws (#1 and #2) and no team can move up more than 10 spots. I think it means top 11 teams are eligible for the draw for the #1 pick. They also have the "can't win the lottery twice in 5 year" rule...technically that applies to us as well.
The new lottery format got me thinking about my team heading into the season. You have to think am I a team that wants to try for the playoffs but miss likely to miss narrowly and not make the lottery or is my team more than likely to finish top 10/11 in the league? I know I'm not as bad as other rebuilding teams but I'm no position to just narrowly miss the playoffs. This new lottery format basically tells you to pick a lane with your team.

At least you have your 1st round pick this year and next. You can afford to wait and let your team decide for you.

A combination of a having second 1st round pick from the Malkin trade plus the fact I'm hovering around the mushy middle of the non-playoff teams...the start I'm off to is telling me what direction to go with this group.
In 2018 my pick was 13th overall...2019, my pick was 10th...2020, my pick was 9th...then I was 12th overall in this last draft.
I'm two years in the bottom 10 and the other two years, I'm just outside it. 2018 was probably my best shot at making the playoffs. The years of trying to push for a bubble playoff spot and not keeping some young players in the fold to call on when they were ready...that was a calculated mistake on my part.
It's pretty obvious what I should do. I've needed to be more patient because I see what teams like Edmonton, Anaheim and New Jersey have done...draft for a while and eventually your team will click and you'll move up the standings. I'm playing the patient approach in some of my other dynasty leagues. I've got to do it here too.

I had to figure that was some joke about how you always have a high draft pick from some team somehow lol.
Still, I’m like 3 points ahead of Chicago. Don’t see any reason I can’t finish bottom 3 this year.

Your team certainly has lots of upside left with Pinto and Rants injured/coming back and now Blackwood coming in. I can see the Rags taking a few more wins here and there given your team config and good goaltending.

There is some upside for sure, not enough to give me a big jump up the standings though I’m hoping. Blackwood could help but goalie stats are so few that it shouldn’t make a massive difference. I’m also really bad in periphs so I should get beat up there each week. Offensively I could snag a few categories weekly perhaps.
