Josi is incredible and people are obviously lowballing you lol. With that said, Josi is going to be 32 for the start of next seasonkyuss wroteCOLONFunny when you think people have been offering close to nothing for Josi who is better and makes less money. He wasn't even picked up at the expansion draft
Josi's season could not have been predicted by anyone. Had I selected him, it would be to move him, but as you said, nobody has given you a fair offer on him (due to his age). Gavrikov is younger, cheaper and provides some extremely good peripheral numbers.KapG wroteCOLONJosi is incredible and people are obviously lowballing you lol. Edit: the expansion part surprised me for sure
This is also a fair rebuttal. As Mik is experiencing right now, moving a 31/32 year old defenceman in this league can be a little difficult even when they are having a truly phenomenal year.DApolloS wroteCOLONJosi's season could not have been predicted by anyone. Now that the season is over, should Josi have been taken? Yes. But at the time of the draft, with his large cap hit, it would have benefitted Nashville more for me to take him than it would have benefitted me.
Agreed, I can see the appeal for Kyle and he has the cap space. With Jones' new contract he might not be worth this much, but a team with a lot of players on ELCs can fit him in and eventually rebuilders need to start adding valuable players if they want to take the next step.Shoalzie wroteCOLONThis move makes more sense for a team like the Rangers with more a better prospect pool built up and is much further along in the building process.
As opposed to other teams picking in this pick range... (points at self)
Everyone been harping about that a week draft this is. Idk how an argument could even be made that this could be viewed as too much to give up. What are the odds of getting a jones caliber player at 4/5/6? Probably not that good. Feel my team is at a point in its rebuild where adding a guy of this caliber is probably a good move. If it was a team who was way further behind in their rebuild I could see it being viewed as a poor trade to execute but I think the value, for this specific draft at least, is quite good.Bruyns wroteCOLONAgreed, I can see the appeal for Kyle and he has the cap space. I get what you’re saying when you are taking each teams cap into consideration but I’m just talking about the value of this pick and jones in a vacuum.Bruyns wroteCOLONI think it is a good trade for you.
When talking about value, I mean based on contract. Jones is better than whatever prospect Steve drafts 5th overall for at least the next three years I would say and maybe for their whole careers. I just feel a 9.5M cap hit hurts his value a little and feel Steve did very well to get a pick that high when the amount of teams that would be interested in Jones for a high 1st might not be many. I'd take a slightly less productive 5M Dman and the cap space to spend on other players personally, but like I said you don't have cap problems so it makes sense.
If Steve offered me Jones for the 15th I would say no and I don't think I'm the only one as other GMs would have a hard time fitting in Jones without moving other good players out. Having cap space is an asset and when you are tight to the cap it makes you view player value differently.
Totally. In a few years though I’ll also have skinner off his 9-9.5 million cap hit or whatever it is. Idk if duchene gets another 8 million dollar deal either. Just felt my team was in a position where I could take advantage of getting a player of his caliber for a sole pick in what is being classified as a weak draft. It could totally back fire on me so we will see!Bruyns wroteCOLONThe three other conference finalists also had
Kucherov - 9.5M
Josi 9M
Crosby 8.7
Heiskanen 8.5
Makar 9M
Aho 8.5M
Cap will hopefully continue increasing and it's not like 9.5M is a boat anchor and will keep you from winning, you need cheap contributing players and my team only has a few so I have to be really efficient with my cap hits.
