this is silly. i know for a fact that if my team played a game against my high school friend's team and we lost. it wouldnt matter. if i bumped into him 5 meters away from the press conference, id still joke around and talk to him. this is more about "how it looks" than anything. and its exactly the kind of stupidity that needs to be avoided when talking about hockey. id rather have seen an article about ov's lackluster play than using this as a sign of his "commitment to winning" etc. pure bs.bryshook wroteCOLONI just dont think you would ever see the likes of a Stevey Y, Mark Messier or Sid doing that. They are the so called leaders on their respective teams, just makes it look like they don't care and that effects the team no matter what anyone says.
Hear hear. This year my team lost in the finals to a rival team full of friends, as upset as we were about losing the final we still took some time after the game to talk and joke around with our friends on the other side. That being said as soon as we walked away we were bummed again to say the least...SuperMario wroteCOLONthis is silly. i know for a fact that if my team played a game against my high school friend's team and we lost. it wouldnt matter. if i bumped into him 5 meters away from the press conference, id still joke around and talk to him. this is more about "how it looks" than anything. and its exactly the kind of stupidity that needs to be avoided when talking about hockey. id rather have seen an article about ov's lackluster play than using this as a sign of his "commitment to winning" etc. pure bs.bryshook wroteCOLONI just dont think you would ever see the likes of a Stevey Y, Mark Messier or Sid doing that. i guarantee. if you you were ovechkin and nick was kovalchuk, and you ran into each other 5 meters away from a press conference when you BARELY ever talked/saw each other despite being good friends because of a schedule, you would NOT say to nick "hey buddy, let's find somewhere more private to catch up on good times". this being "professional" bs is exactly that: bs. because we somehow expect these athletes to not be human when they see a good friend? absolutely ridiculous.bryshook wroteCOLONHabber wroteCOLONHear hear. There is a difference between playing in a beer league and getting paid over 9 mill per season and having it be your career. You owe it to your team mates and fans to avoid situations like this, its called being professional and yes its exactly a "how it looks" situation and it looks bad. One thing I like about hockey players is the ability to battle on the ice then go out for a beer after the game, I feel it seperates us from the rest of sports. If this had been a 4-2 loss and wasn't after back to back blow outs it would be fine, but the fact is he (ovy) has been a complete no show and even more it looks like he doesn't care on the ice. So allowing yourself to get put in a position, aka being right outside the press conference where they can hear you laughing, well thats stupidity and that alone makes me think they dont care. How their dumb ass's didnt think to walk down the hall and have that conversation is what I find rediculous and what makes me think they don't care, not the act itself.
Hmm you really aren't good at reading people at all. In case you hadn't ever noticed Nick and I are two of the most competitive people you will ever meet. We are probably even competitive enough we would fight each other (despite my obvious size disadvantage) in big intense games or blow outs because we would get mad at the other one. If either of us blew out the other one (in an nhl enviornment) I garuntee we wouldn't want to talk to each other, we are both too proud. IMO you have all day to catch up sometimes a day or two in the city to catch up why not do it then. For example I remember reading when Cujo came back to Toronto, Roberts had him over for dinner, you think they talked after the game? Probably not. if you think its relavent or not shiv doesn't concern me at all, they need to be professionals and they are held to a different level. Its the way it is, right or wrong, and will never change.SuperMario wroteCOLONi guarantee. if you you were ovechkin and nick was kovalchuk, and you ran into each other 5 meters away from a press conference when you BARELY ever talked/saw each other despite being good friends because of a schedule, you would NOT say to nick "hey buddy, let's find somewhere more private to catch up on good times". this being "professional" bs is exactly that: bs. because we somehow expect these athletes to not be human when they see a good friend? absolutely ridiculous.
everything you and nick are saying about being competitive is fine. but you guys are two people. i know a lot of people that would be fine with catching up after even a blowout despite how competitive they are. this bs about how they couldnt meet up for dinner is retarded. you are ASSUMING they could have lol.bryshook wroteCOLONHmm you really aren't good at reading people at all. Because the people off bbkl are the measure of which importance should be measured? TSN found it important enough to report, just saying.SuperMario wroteCOLONeverything you and nick are saying about being competitive is fine. but you guys are two people. i know a lot of people that would be fine with catching up after even a blowout despite how competitive they are. this bs about how they couldnt meet up for dinner is retarded. you are ASSUMING they could have lol.bryshook wroteCOLONHmm you really aren't good at reading people at all. btw you do realize the caps were getting on a bus to leave right after right? this is a stupid story. i cant believe people in bbkl would actually assign any level of importance to it.
He isn't the sole leader but he wears an "A" for his team, I don't know what else you would call a guy with an "A". Being a shitty leader doesn't mean you aren't one for that team.bergey wroteCOLONto say kovi is the leader of the team would be a farfetch. ... langenbrunner and brodeur more of a leader than kovi imo.
lol that was the nicest thing anyone has every said to me. i think i chose the right career path too . but my point is simply this: i as a person would not give a fuck about anyone else if i bump into a friend regardless of a loss. i would say hi, i would joke around. thats the exact attitude because of which ov is a superstar. to derive from a few laughs with a friend that ovs head isnt fully in the game is silly. he obviously gives a fuck. washington will still be at the top of the east in march. and the fact that tsn reported doesnt mean anything. their job is to report anything of any importance that happens. it is up to fans to sift though things that are actual issues and things that are bs issues.bryshook wroteCOLONBecause the people off bbkl are the measure of which importance should be measured? BTW do you realize they also arrived in NJD on sunday morning? You are ASSUMING they COULDN'T have met up. Just as retarded of an argument as ours. I am not saying they could have, I am saying they have other methods of contact and of catching up. I used the Cujo/Roberts thing as one single example. That was my point and that alone. Seems as though you take exactly what you want out of everything someone says and disregard what is meant. I know see what kareem always talks about when arguing with you. Hell looks like you chose the right career path you may end up being a good lawyer.
My only point was that you would never catch any of the great leaders doing this that was all. This became an issue when you attacked what I said, I put it up because I also felt that this has been blown out of proportion. I only chose to stick up for its relevance because of how quickly you dismissed it as nothing at all. Neel put it best when he said mountain out of a molehill. This is getting blown out of proportion but it is something that I wouldn't like to see if I was a washington fan or a member of the caps in any position. That was my only point in saying anything. If I knew it would be this big of a headache I never would have posted anything at all.SuperMario wroteCOLONlol that was the nicest thing anyone has every said to me. i think i chose the right career path too . but my point is simply this: i as a person would not give a fuck about anyone else if i bump into a friend regardless of a loss. i would say hi, i would joke around. thats the exact attitude because of which ov is a superstar. to derive from a few laughs with a friend that ovs head isnt fully in the game is silly. he obviously gives a fuck. washington will still be at the top of the east in march. and the fact that tsn reported doesnt mean anything. their job is to report anything of any importance that happens. it is up to fans to sift though things that are actual issues and things that are bs issues.
when sir in the post did i attack what you said? i merely said this talk was silly. never once did i attack you. if you dont believe me read the post i made again:bryshook wroteCOLONMy only point was that you would never catch any of the great leaders doing this that was all. and by the way to me the topic is very irrelevant. but it gets attention because "Ovechkin Jokes Around with Kovalchuk after Huge Loss" is a story that gets people going despite the lack of substance int he material. to me its mickey mouse journalism than actual journalism. that by no means is a shot at you.SuperMario wroteCOLONthis is silly. i know for a fact that if my team played a game against my high school friend's team and we lost. it wouldnt matter. if i bumped into him 5 meters away from the press conference, id still joke around and talk to him. this is more about "how it looks" than anything. and its exactly the kind of stupidity that needs to be avoided when talking about hockey. id rather have seen an article about ov's lackluster play than using this as a sign of his "commitment to winning" etc. pure bs.
kareem pretty much articulated what i've been trying to say in a better way lol.MSP4LYFE wroteCOLONThis is a non story. It's great that some people are competitive on and off the field, but it's important to realize that not everyone is like that. To use a real world example, I have played, and trained with with future MLS soccer players, and team mates with scholarships on the line, and some of them would not only fraternize off the pitch, but on it as well. That said, in no way, shape or form were they working any less, or unconcerned by the outcome of the game, merely different personalities. The same is true in hockey, different personalities, and players from different nationalities and upbringings act differently, and often time their body language appears bad, not because it is negative, but because it is different or not what we are used to. Again I can vouch for this with personal experience. Guys who appeared silly or lackadaisical on the field, were sometimes the hardest working, and most influential in the locker rooms.
You can argue that OV shouldn't have fraternized near the media, but that has more to do with the nature of the media than the act itself. It's the compete on the ice that counts, and OV is the most competitive guy when it matters, to say otherwise would be false.
