It's not like a lot of these long term deals where the players will be around 40 by the end of the deal and they probably won't be playing that long. 10 years for Backstrom puts him in his early 30s and can very well be one of the best players in the league for the duration of the deal. Of all the long term deals out there, I'd argue this one could be the best and will bring the best return on investment. What's crazy too is that Backstrom won't even be a UFA when this deal is up.

He'll be UFA .. UFA age is 27 .

ufa is 7 years of service not just 27.
for example Luke Schenn will be a ufa at age 25
