Toronto Star sources confirm Leafs have acquired D Cody Fransen and C Matthew Lombardi from NASH for D Brett Lebda and F Robert Slaney.

There are also conditional mid-round picks involved in the TOR-NASH trade depending on Lomardi's health. He played only 2 games last year.

Fucking amazing deal! Franson is huge and can play offense. He's also still very young. Then we get Lombardi who's a decent middle line center. Only downside is Lombardi is a little overpaid at 3.5 million, but he has only 2 years left on his deal.

Kadri is a LW, and Armstrong can only play the RW.

Both Franson and Phaneuf are RS defenceman, and both offensive minded. There is no way RW splits up Phaneuf - Aulie, and Franson has not shown the capability to play top 4 ES minutes (yet). I think it's more likely that he starts the season on the third pairing with Carl Gunarsson (LS).

It's simple really, Lombardi was going to go on LTIR, and the team is responsible for paying out that salary, not the insurance company. Nashville can't afford to pay players who aren't playing, especially with impending UFA's in Shea Weber and Ryan Suter.

It's simple really, Lombardi was going to go on LTIR, and the team is responsible for paying out that salary, not the insurance company. Nashville can't afford to pay players who aren't playing, especially with impending UFA's in Shea Weber and Ryan Suter.

I agree, if Lombardi comes back we have a legit third line center, if he goes on LTIR we save .600 on the cap. Plus we added a young hulking defenceman with offensive upside.

Do we have a good idea of Lombardi's healh? Chance of opening day?

I really can't see Burke rolling with Lombardi/Bozak as 3/4.
