i think you're right, they already have him penciled into their top 3 pairing.

He'll be paired with Eminger or McD. I think he'll work out great with Eminger though.

I think there is opportunity though. I love staal but he is a pp2 guy. They need a guy for pp1 and imo he is the only fit they have at this point. I don't see major shtoi from the guy but im ok with that.

He'll have a year much like his rookie season.

I wouldn't be shocked if MDZ fails to make the Rangers roster again this season, their D-Core is underrated without him:

Marc Staal - Daniel Girardi
Mike Sauer - Ryan Macdonagh
Tim Erixon - Steve Eminger

And moving forward I think McIlrath solidifies himself in the top 4.

Anything without sauer in top 4 seems to lack watching their playoff push IMO - and ignores his new deal. Guy is really good, notably better then MDZ or McD at this stage IMo

why the fuck would sauer go from playing top 4 minutes last season in his rookie year, and doing it VERY well, to playing 6th/7th man minutes this season.

I agree with everything except the last statement, I still give Macdonagh the slight edge. Though it is clear they both benefit playing with one another.
