im confident yes. but i wont be stupid while making a bet lol. the odds for the 2009 stanley cup at the start of the 2008-2009 season are below. the best team was Detroit with 5 to 1 odds. Considering that this is well before the start of the season (i.e. a LOT can change in terms of team strengths) plus things like injuries to key players, odds are obviously key here. i want 6 to 1 (that was the 2nd lowest odds in 2009. Considering theres NJD, WSH, BOS, LAK and PHI competing and how good they are its compeltely fair):

If you're basing it strictly on name value I suppose, but consider that my defence has 3 top pairing defenceman on their respective teams (Kronwall, Myers, Pitkanen), each capabable of scoring 50+, as well as filling the periphery stats, and then I have a bottom 3 that includes some of the very best defensive d-man in the game (Hejda, Gill, Michalek, McKee), each capable of finishing in the top 10 of SHTOI and BS for defenceman, and I am rather happy with my defense. Besides, it's not like I need them to score...I need the periphery stats, and the above do it as good as anyone.

I'd take my current core over last seasons anyday of the week (Giordano, Niedermayer, Pitkanen, Michalek, Kulikov, Bouwmeester), especially when you consider the cap commitments vs this year.
