Smart trade Shep, at the rate Franson is progressing, he could be a pretty special defenceman.

franson and ellis have my favourite slap shots in the league. so smooth and so much torque. doesn't even look like they're trying but the puck just rockets off the stick.

no love for mr stamkos?
Id also argue that Fransons wrist shot is more deadly than his Slapper.

stamkos can hammer it with the best of them but he looks like he's trying to hammer it.

franson and ellis just seem to take such a slow backswing and be so smooth through the puck and it just takes off like it's got a jetpack.

yea it's generally the taller, lankier guys that can do it, which makes ellis's more impressive

Too bad the main thing holding Franson back is his inability to structure his defensive game -- his body positioning will likely never be adequate enough to justify a top-pairing label. Amazing shot; maybe the best in the NHL. Amazing first pass. But everything else is just very average or below. It wasn't easy to let him go given the "unknown" with him, but at least I got premium back that I might not have gotten from others.

ellis has had an NHL calibre clapper since he was 16. i used to have rangers season tickets and saw him a lot his rookie OHL year.

first time i ever saw him play he ripped a one timer off the cross bar and i was like

The exciting thing about Franson is that you can see the improvements in every aspect of his game, and I think his defense has been fine the last couple of games. I'd like to see him use his size and length to force the opposition to the outside better though, but I'm incredibly impressed on the whole. According to Dreger on TSN last night, Cody Franson is on Brian Burke's untouchable list.

i will say about franson that i think he's one of the best defenceman at keeping the puck in the zone ive ever seen. ive seen him glove down more sure-fire clears than anyone else all season.

he's not a great skater and sometimes seems passive in the defensive zone, but his positives far outweigh his negatives. a very good 3/4 dman.

Easily the hardest clapper on the Leafs.

Franson is a beast. Since Komi went down he's been top 3 on our team, with ease.

His bbkl stats are great, and in the end that's what matters most..

I was just commenting in regards to the head in the sky comments being said. He's a more then capable dman who does own a nice shot and strong o-zone play.

Franson imo is one of our best dmen. He's reliable, incredible shot, and like anton said he's one of the best at keeping the puck in the offensive zone.

Franson is far too underrated and schenn is far too overrated. I'm actually hoping we move Schenn while he still has some trade value.
