Hey guys, Neel is going to write a blog within the next week on the scientific/health aspects of concussions. Maybe we can get a decent discussion going on thoughts/opinions on the matter that will be helpful for the blog, as I know we will be able to get more reliable, better information from the community here than elsewhere!

Well considering I've had about 5 known concussions (all sports related) and who knows how many I didn't realize I had I can give plenty of first hand experience on the matter lol.

No wonder thoughts just keep coming out of you.

All my concussions were soccer (keeper) related, either taking a shot to the head or by being physically kicked in the head sliding an opposing player. I've had symptoms ranging from your standard headaches/nausea to full blown sensitivity to light and temporary loss of speech just this past summer.

Its not a fun experience, and its frustrating that little can actually be done for them.

Diagnosing them isn't as easy as some make it out to be either. It's old hat stuff to me now so I can tell when I have a full blown concussion or a bell-ringer (still a minor form of concussion). But back in my earlier years its so hard to tell; it was a lack of knowledge on what to look for. Usually its just the feeling of being "off" but you cant really place any symptoms to describe it to someone...

The focus on early diagnosing of concussions in sport will certainly help other athletes wether they be professional or amateur take the matter more seriously. Its too bad its taken this long for it to happen...

Good stuff, Chuck. I have always wondered if there's a genetic predisposition to concussions (we spoke on a personal topic awhile ago with regards to concussions).

I'll be writing it from a medical/scientific stand point as its an issue thats interested me for a while. I've read quite a few scholarly articles on the topic in the past but hope to get my research together and write something in the next week. Any questions or things you want to know I'll do my best to address.
