http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RCW0VsfR9FM[/youtube]

and its backfired hard. check the comments. just hilarious. im glad most hockey fans are smarter than to blindly support the PA after such a fluff piece.

EDIT: whoever runs their youtube channel has started deleting comments in an attempt to save face lol. oh lawd.

I have no idea how they will get a deal done. This season looks like it may be a loss. I wont be surprised to see some big money guys come together and create a small 6 team league and play out of citys like KC and Quebec. That would be interesting.

A buddy of mine's family owns a rink in New York and has a number of the NYR staff who goes there for their kids' games. In the past 2 weeks hes spoken to Jim Ramsay (NYR Head Trainer) and Jerry Dineen (NYR Video Coach). Both guys have said that a deal will almost certainly be done by sometime in Decemeber at the lastest. They said that the league really values the Winter Classic and want to avoid losing it. We'll see I guess.

I'll certainly watch hockey when it comes back, but I won't be buying anything hockey related for a while!

Man I will be chapped if there is no NHL hockey, the details of this season make it worse: Leafs in Winter Classic, Leafs the focus on HBO 24/7, I actually think the team is looking pretty good this year (lots of high skill youngsters looking for a spot - Reimer done with sophomore), the odds are stacked against us to NOT not make the playoffs, and to be the 30th team since the lockout to do so.

This is a pretty significant overstatement. There are many ways a deal can get done, the season is still a month away from beginning, there is tons of time left, and seemingly no one, even the most skeptical analysts, are predicting a season long lockout. The issues this time around pale in comparison to 2004.

I'm gonna be honest, I think the Leafs look almost identical to last season, and we all know what happened last season...

im just shocked that so many fans have turned against the players. i thought, as the PA probably did, this video would turn into a big circle jerk about how much the owners are bullying the players, but it's been the complete opposite.

the feedback has been absolutely scathing lol. i, for one, think its great.

One aspect of the whole lockout scenario I have never considered:

To play somewhere other then the NhL the players needs to insure against injury or risk their current contract. high value or long term deals cause very high premiums, and make playing over-seas less likely.

Just a semantic to note: players are covered by insurance if they play in a league anywhere in North America. If they leave to play outside of that then they must purchase private insurance.

Get Yonge Street ready! Leafs are gonna win the Cup!!! You Leaf fans just never learn, I swear they gotta put something in the water or something to keep your delusion going. Like Kareem said the Leafs aren't much different than last years Leafs. You'll be fighting just to squeak into 8th spot and will probably still end up on the short end of the stick yet again...

And don't start taking shots at the Habs. I know were not a playoff this year nor were we last. At least I have the presence of mind to acknowledge it!

You are right that that may be an overstatement but both sides are so far apart it is mind blowing. The PA has never had the leadership like they do now. The propaganda among the players about unity is amazing. Like some have said, any discussion that starts with rollback will be ignored. Then when you have such a large amount of franchises losing money, it is the only way to move forward is to get more money to make up for the loss. I dont know where they will ever meet to get a deal done.

The two sides aren't far apart at all, in fact they are rather close. The owners have hinted that they will agree to a 50% split, and have remarked that they will organize a larger pool of revenue sharing that applies to more teams. The only real issue that needs to be negotiated is a roll back, and if it the players would stop playing games, and start to negotiate a deal rather than pandering for public support they would bridge the gap in short order.

its a 7% gap, and considering the players originally took 54% after the lockout, its closer to a 4% gap in revenue split.
I can almost garentee there will not be a roll back of any kind.
There will be Amnesty Buyouts likely that is how teams will sort out there cap situations.
