I'm at the Truck Loggers Conference right now, our minister of Forest (+ lands & nature resource operations) just announced some notable changes in policy. Mid-coast stumpage reduced to $1 per cubic meter (in line with the north coast now) for mid and low grade, cost to freight to be a factor on bids from domestic buyers (to stop blocking), and a sliding scale introduced on the fee in lieu charge (for exporting not manufacturing), approx a 20% increase, this is aimed as keeping south coast timber domestic, and supply fibre to surrounding sawmills + at the same time all 3 measures drive rural logging. Which has been un-economic since 2008, something like 10% of the AAC harvested last year. Should be a busy time in the North Island, mostly positive news for my riding and the people that brought me down to this event.

Thats pretty cool. I will be sure to keep up to date on your tweets. I try to keep up to date on our own policies but my job is more technical than policy. My job lately seems to be technical as a direct change in policy. For example, delaying the Management plan another year for various reasons which will allow the licensees(aka Irving) to introduce a bunch more BS and flex there power over the government. At present a big project i am working on is doing Network Analysis to determine harvesting costs on subsidized crown land vs Marketing board private lands. With this province being in such a hole budget wise, all kinds of process improvement projects are on the go. like being told my section must cut 5% off the budget and i get handed all the duties of another person as he leaves the branch. I took a job with government so i could relax GD! Its not happening...lol

Ye, lucky we have a very small defict in BC, almost entirely from the oppositions time in power during the 90's (when BC didn't do good, rest of Canada did amazing), the crash in '08-'10 & the vote to return to PST instead of HST, which is a nice 3B minus in direct cost.
