Two months left to make trades. I doubt he'll make any more signings. Possibly a few minor ones not worth mentioning.

imo stand pat, he has a plan stick to it. It is easy to get caught up in the moment and overpay for someone only to regret it later...cough...blake...cough. I think he has done well the last two days for you guys and should wait for prices to come down or for the proper trade to arise.

I wish there was some more news on kovy just to stop my dreaming before it truly gets any legs.

burke needs to man the fuck up and sign the greatest player to hit FA since fucking Wayne Gretzky.

Seriously, how does he think we are going to get a player of this caliber? Obviously the entire kovy thing is quite hush hush right now but I mean FUCK. The only team really being talked about right now is LA. From a fantasy perspective LA might be better for me then Toronto but fuck me sideways we could use him.

Kyle, 28 of 30 teams are not in on Kovalchuk, not just Burke...

I'm not a fan of those other teams, just Toronto Kareem.

There is ZERO reasons to not go after Kovulchuk, there really is. There hasn't been aplayer of this caliber at this age hit FA in 25+ years.

EDIT. not that it'll matter to any of you im sure lol, but if burke signed Kovy you wouldn't hear another peep out of me with regards to the Kessel trade. Pretty good bonus for all y'all don't you think>?

If 28 teams out of 30 are not in the hunt to sign Kovalchuk than obviously it would stand to reason that there is in fact a reason not to go after Kovy...

There are reasons why 28 other teams can't sign kovy and it's not because they aren't interested in him.

Secondly the only question I asked is how burke plans on getting a player of this caliber if he won't sign one.

Dursh buddy

Kovalchuck wants upwards of 9 million per season...That's more than Alexander Ovechkin, Evgeni Malkin & Sidney Crosby...A contract like that handcuffs a team severely so when you hand them out it better for someone who can turn a franchise around, your naive if you think Kovalchuk is that player. I'm also not sure why you think we have the money...Because we dont...At least not without severely harming the rest of the roster (I.E. filling it out with Mike Brown types).

Kovy deserves big money... 9M is not more then Ovy btw, and he's not looking for Ovy's term either... It is more then Sid & Geno... but he's also been doing what he does for longer (then Geno @ least, and incredibly consistent 40+).... Doesn't play reckless, but doesn't play soft, 6'4"+, 230lbs, amazing hands, truest goal scorer in the NHL...

Most teams are out because they're either too close to their internal cap or else too close to the real cap.

Everyone with money has no room
Everyone with room has no money

Except for us. and some report LAK are #1, but people have been calling them #1 for Hossa/Gaborik/etc... from what I've seen they simply don't spend to the cap.... add in planning for DD & JJ (6.5+ & 5ish)...

anyways. I need to see him gone... thoughts of having him are simply too exciting for me... fav Russian.

That was quoted on TSN - however they did say the Leafs did have both room and money and it might come downt to them, LA, + someone else.

who knows, i think Burke will keep hush hush on the Kovy thing until the end.

Leafs should just offer 8-9mil per for 3-5 years.

"Leafs not interested in either of Frolov OR Lombardi"

- assuming they want too much cash.

Kovalchuck is asking for more than OV, hence "upwards of 9 million"...And he wants term too, I've heard as little as 7 years, and as many as 12...That's OV territory, Kovy is not OV...Great scorer, but at the end of the day that's all he is. He isn't going to make those around him better with his playmaking, he isnt going to stop a goal with his defence, and contrary to your point does not play a physical game. Is he soft? No, but he's not as physical as he should be with that size either. He and Malkin aren't even comparable given that Malkin has a cup ring, scoring title, and Conn Smyth trophy to his name.

I wish we signed Burke as much as the next guy, but there are cons, and to ignore them and call out Burke for not signing Kovy is naive, IMO.

I believe Kovy has a goal scoring title, and has been top 10 in scoring almost every year he's been in the league, if not in pts then in goals.

and its not like he's not a winner:
Played for Russia in:
2002 Winter Olympics (bronze medal)
2005 World Championships (bronze medal)
2007 World Championships (bronze medal)
2008 World Championships (gold medal)
2009 World Championships (gold medal)
Atlanta Thrashers franchise single season goal total, 52 (2005–06, 2007-08)

Ovy has consistently referred to him as " the best player in the world", and he was the 2nd ever Kharlamov Trophy winner.

I'm not saying give him a 90 million 12 year deal. But if it's 50 over 6, 60 over 7 ... I sure hope Burke at least considers it... even more so if Grossman is nudging Burke to be interested. and if he wants 68 but 10 we should be ecstatic... shit would look amazing 2-3 years form now :)

This is all I have to say in response to the Kovy love in...
Word from various corners of the hockey universe was that Kovalchuk is aiming high — think $10 million a year for 10 to 12 years — and the Kings are uncomfortable with that.
10 million per year until hes 37-39...Really Nick? He's worth that...Really?

Why would you even bring that up...? That's such a stupid point, and you know it, it's called Ovechkin being a nice guy. There isn't a hockey scout/executive or player alike that would call Kovalchuk a better player than Ovechkin...More skilled? Maybe, but that's not all there is to the game of hockey.
