MSP4LYFE wroteCOLONMichael Del Zotto is an incredibly talented offensive player, but his hockey IQ is severely lacking which is why he will never be the super-star his skills suggest he should be. IMO, the comparison isn't even close, Jake Gardiner has already shown me more than MDZ has at any point in his NHL career, but to each his own, IMO.
Ill take MDZ as the better h2h player all day

MSP4LYFE wroteCOLONIt's also worth noting that Jake Gardiner is younger, and a higher pick in the same draft year, so clearly it's not only Leaf fans who like Gardiner more.
Speaks more than any opinion.

Not when you are comparing apples to oranges.

But we are talking about two young d-men in similar situations, in the same part of their careers. There is a reason Gardiner was taken ahead. There is a reason MDZ had difficulty cracking a weak NYR blue line but thanks to injuries to Staal has seen more ice. There is a reason Gardiner sees similar ice time to MDZ on a far better blue line.

If people didn't see the first post in this thread they'd think the deal was Jake/MDZ

Regardless what an incredible year 2008 was for defencemen.

Doughty Pietrangelo Bogosian Schenn Karlsson Myers Del Zotto Teubert Gardiner Carlson Sbisa in the first round alone.

Think Cuma is the only defencemen drafted in the 1st who has yet to play an nhl game.

Wait. Are you guys seriously saying Leafs Blueline does not > NYR Blueline (WITHOUT Staal?) With Staal in there MDZ would not have been given as much ice as he has. Where as Jake has played extremely well and earned a solid spot on a blueline where there is more talent. Wait till Staal comes back, MDZ will lose ice.

Draft position has to mean something....i mean not all first round picks turn out to be studs, but usually guys drafted in the 1st round have a much higher ceiling and talent level than guys drafted in later rounds.
